Features
Everything OptionsJourney does, in one list. Each part links to its page in the guide for the details. It works with TastyTrade and Charles Schwab, and runs on your own Mac or Windows computer.
Trade
- Option chain: pick a symbol and an expiration, then click a bid to sell or an ask to buy. The legs go straight onto the ticket. The chain marks the strikes you already hold. See Trade.
- Order ticket: the price, credit or debit, and the account, with delta, chance of profit, max profit and max loss as you build.
- Review order: your broker checks the order and says what it would cost, including fees and buying power, before anything is sent.
- Risk graph: what the trade makes or loses at every price, at expiry and today. Slide time forward or try a different volatility. It also shows the expected move, breakevens and the Greeks.
- Working orders from all your accounts, in one list. You can change the price of, or cancel, the orders you sent from the app.
- Ideas: save a trade you built but didn't send, and follow its P/L. See Ideas.
- Pending orders: every order still waiting at your broker, in every account, in one drawer on the Journal. See Pending orders.
- Futures options like /ES, on TastyTrade.
Look after your trades
- A profit target and a stop on every trade: set them when you open it, or add them to a trade you already have. See Manage this trade.
- Stops held at your broker keep working even when your computer is off.
- Timed closes: close a trade at a set time, for example before the close.
- Adjust as you go: close part of a trade, move its stop or target, or roll a leg. See Adjust a bot's trade before the close.
Bots
- Bots open trades for you at set times on the days you pick, with their stops and targets already on. See Automation and Set up your first bot.
- Paper or Live: a Paper bot does everything except send the order, so you can watch it for a while before trusting it. See Go from Paper to Live.
- Many shapes: iron condors, credit and debit spreads, butterflies, straddles, strangles, or your own with up to 4 legs, on SPX, XSP, stocks and ETFs.
- Hand a trade to a bot: a trade you opened yourself can be looked after by a bot's rules. See Hand a trade to a bot.
- Share a bot with a friend as a small file. It never includes your account, login or sizes.
- Market calendar: bots skip market holidays, and any blackout days you pick.
Safety
- Stop all bots, always one click away.
- No new trades and Freeze all orders: two switches that pause trading, with a banner on every page while one is on. See Pausing trading.
- Limits: the most a bot can send per trade and per day, checked before every order.
- The order log: every order the app sends or checks, and what the broker said.
Charts
- Up to 10 live charts on one screen, for any stock, ETF, index or futures. See Charts.
- Your own layouts in tabs, and pop-out windows for a second monitor.
- Indicators: moving averages, VWAP, Bollinger and Keltner bands, the expected move, the opening range, volume profiles, RSI and MACD.
- Drawing tools: lines, trend lines, boxes and Fibonacci levels, saved for each symbol.
- Watchlist of your own symbols, and of the ones you're trading.
- News: the latest headlines for the symbol on the chart, beside it. Hover over one for a short summary.
Journal
- Every trade, by itself: fills from your brokers are grouped into trades, open and closed, with live P/L. See Your trade journal.
- Tags and notes: group trades your way, like "earnings" or "wheel", and filter by them. See Tags.
- Dashboards: save a set of filters and come back to it.
- Trades at other brokers can be added by hand.
- Paper trades have a view of their own and never mix with your real numbers.
Metrics
See what's working and what isn't, on the Metrics tab. Every number follows the Journal's filters, so you can look at everything or at one tag, account, bot or saved dashboard. See Metrics.
- The headline numbers: realized P/L, win rate, expectancy (what a trade makes on average), profit factor (money won for each dollar lost) and max drawdown.
- Wins next to losses: the average win and loss, how big wins are next to losses, the largest of each, and what you paid in fees.
- P/L calendar: each day in green or red, with how many trades closed, the day's big economic events, a total for each week, and the month's best and worst day.
- A day, week or month's trades: click one for its trades, grouped by your dashboards, with a column for each account that traded.
- Cumulative P/L and drawdown: two charts of your running P/L and how far below your best point you were, day by day.
- By day, week or month: a bar for each with a cumulative P/L line over them, plus the winners, the average, and the best and worst.
- Day of the week: how each weekday has gone.
- Each bot's record: its P/L and win rate, per lot the average trade, winner and loser, and every trade it made, with how many days it was held and its P/L as a % of the premium.
Accounts
- All your accounts in one place: value, cash and buying power, and a total. See Your accounts.
- Account values over time, on a chart.
- Transactions: everything the app has read from your brokers. See Transactions.
Alerts
- The bell shows what needs your attention, with a button to go and fix it. See Alerts.
- Your own alerts on a price, a spread, a trade's P/L, or several trades' P/L together (the bell on a journal trade).
- On your phone through Discord or Telegram. See Get alerts on your phone.
Yours
- On your computer: no subscription, no account with us, no server in between. Your broker logins stay in your computer's own password store.
- Runs in the background with an icon in the menu bar or system tray. See The menu bar icon.
- Use it from your phone or other computers, at home or away. See FAQ.
- Backups every day or week, kept on your computer. See Settings.
- Help built in, with search as you type.
- Updates from inside the app. See Update the app.
